Join us as we spotlight our Venture Team program! Our Venture Team program addresses early questions about the commercial potential of university technologies by analyzing their competitive landscapes, investigating the economics of potential business models and identifying viable pathways to market. The BSC forms teams of graduate students and post-docs from science, engineering, business, law and medicine, to develop business plans centered on university technologies with guidance from the inventors and mentorship from industry professionals.
Each spring, the venture teams compete for a minimum of $30,000 in non-dilutive seed funding to help form a company and drive its technology towards commercialization. The Venture Teams supplement their yearlong analyses with proposed budgets showcasing how the seed funding will advance their technologies. During the competition, teams present an investment pitch to a judging panel of industry veterans, which determine the funding winner.
The BSC has a close partnership with the Office of Intellectual Property and we are here to assist the entrepreneurial community at UCLA in advancing their technologies to fulfill the promise of innovation for the public benefit. If you’re interested in exploring opportunities to translate your technology from the lab to the market where it can impact critical unmet needs, please submit your proposal to Samantha Le at Full submission details are available here.
